When Shaykh Salih was a student in the Azhar, he had one teacher who was blind, and whose young son would walk him from his home to the noble Azhar Mosque and back. One time when Shaykh Salih was away for a few days, this scholar lost his son, and his family searched for the boy for three days without being able to find him. When Shaykh Salih came back to the Azhar and greeted his teacher, the teacher said, “My son, o Salih!’ When the Shaykh became aware of the situation, he took his teacher’s hand and told him to recite with him the saying of Allah most great:
وَهُوَ عَلَى جَمْعِهِمْ إِذَا يَشَاءُ قَدِيرٌ
He is able to gather all of them together if He wills (42:29)
The scholar had barely finished repeating this verse after Shaykh Salih, when his young boy appeared. The scholar began kissing Shaykh Salih and saying to him, “You are blessed, Shaykh Salih! You are a wali of Allah most high!”
