The All-Encompassing Prayer

The All-Encompassing Prayer (al-salaat al-jaami’ah) also known as: The Gabriel-ic Prayer (al-salaat al-jibraa’eeliyya)

by Shaykh Ahmad ibn Idris (may Allah be pleased with him and please him)

Oh Allah, send prayers and peace and blessings upon our master Muhammad and his family,

and all the prophets and messengers, and upon Gabriel, and Michael, and Israfel, and the Angel of Death,

and the Bearers of the Throne, and upon all the angels

and upon the awliya and the righteous, and upon all Your believing slaves

in every glance and every breath, as many times as all the things contained in Your knowledge. Amen.

It is mentioned in Risalat al-Awrad al-Idrisiyya, that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

‘Whoever recites this prayer will be rewarded with assistance from every prophet and messenger and angel and wali and all of Allah’s slaves on the Day of Judgment.’

Commentary: Al-Tabarani and others narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“Send prayers upon the prophets of Allah and His messengers, for Allah has sent them as He has sent me.”

صلوا على أنبياء الله ورسله فإن الله بعثهم كما بعثني

The ‘Shaykh of the Hadith Scholars’ Abu Musa al-Madini said: It has reached me through a chain of narrators to one of our righteous predecessors (salaf) that he saw Adam (peace be upon him) in his sleep, as if he was complaining of how little his children send prayers upon him. May Allah send prayers upon our Prophet and upon him and all the prophets and messengers, and send them peace.

Ibn Wahb narrated on the authority of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace said): If any man does not have charity to give, let him say in his supplication: ‘Oh Allah send prayers upon Muhammad, Your slave and Messenger, and send prayers upon the believing men and believing women, and the Muslim men and Muslim women,’ for it will be counted as zakat for him.
