When it is Friday, make sure you recite Sura al-Kahf, because reciting it has been asked of you on the day of Friday and its night. Friday has also been singled out with many things, such as:
– أستغفر الله العظيم الذي لا إله إلا هو الحي القيوم وأتوب إليه
Three times between the sunna and the fard of the Subh (fajr) prayer
– Sura al-Sajda and al-Insan in the the Subh Prayer
– Sura al-‘Alaa and al-Ghashiya in the Friday Prayer
(or maybe both the Friday and Asr because the text says: “in the prayer of its day.”)
– Sura al-Kafirun and al-Ikhlas in the Maghrib Prayer
– Sura al-Jumu’ah and al-Munafiqun in the Isha Prayer
This is all the Sunna of the Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam).
Taken from Risalat al-Awrad al-Idrisiyya by shaykh Muhammad al-Yamani b. Ali b. Muhammad al-Qutb b. Ahmad b. Idris. Edited and published by shaykh Salih al-Ja’fari (may Allah be pleased with them all).
Note that there is a wisdom behind every Sunna. The early Sufi & Hadith master al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi (c. 205 – 320 AH), author of the hadith collection Nawadir al-Usul, said:
“The reason that these two Suras (al-Sajda and al-Insan) are recited in the Fajr prayer of Friday is because in these two Suras the creation of Adam, Allah’s blessings be upon him, is mentioned; and he was created on a Friday. It is as if He (i.e. Allah most high) wanted to spread mention of this (creation) among the worshippers on Friday.” – Al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi (205 – 320 AH).
